How To Reheat Domino’s Pizza The Right Way

Pizza is such a well-loved dish, people scramble for that last scrumptious slice.

But there are those incredibly rare instances when you’ll still find a few pieces left in the box after a party. And lucky you, left with these because you’re in for a treat the next day!

This is how delicious pizza is: it’s good even after an overnight stay in the fridge. There are millions of people all over the world who swear that cold, day-old pizza ‘hits different’, especially for breakfast.

However, if you’re not too keen on that idea, you could stick it in the oven for another minute or two.

Methods for Reheating Pizza

How To Reheat Domino's Pizza The Right Way

Thanks to advancements in kitchen appliance technology, there are several ways to reheat your pizza – whether that’s from a fast-food chain like Domino’s or some pricey gourmet pizzeria. You could also use time-tested ways with the most straightforward cooking tools.

Oven

For some people, this is still the best way to reheat those surplus slices because the oven allows even temperatures inside (especially with a convection oven). This is the best option if you need to reheat a whole pie.

Instructions:

  • – Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) for 10 minutes.
  •
  • – Place the pizza on a baking sheet or pizza stone.
  •
  • – Bake pizza for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

Downsides:

  • – Overcooked crust, making it extra-crispy to almost hard.
  •
  • – Takes longer because of the pre-heating and the actual baking.
  •
  • – Too much energy expenditure for leftovers.
  •

Oven Toaster

This kitchen appliance was made specifically for baking small dishes and reheating leftovers. It provides the same results as an oven but does not take as much time or energy.

Instructions:

  • – Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) for a minute or two.
  •
  • – Place the slices in the baking sheet the toaster comes with.
  •
  • – Bake pizza for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
  •

Downsides:

  • Just like the oven, the crust can get overcooked.
  •
  • – Most toasters are small and won’t accommodate pizza stones.
  •
  • – Can only fit a few slices.
  •

Microwave

Zapping your pizza is the best way to go if you’re in a rush. With a microwave, the inside of the food is heated at the same time as the outside. And the whole process is finished in just under a minute!

Instructions:

  • – Place the pizza on a microwave-safe plate
  •
  • – Cover the slice with a dampened paper towel
  •
  • – Nuke it for 30-45 seconds on high, or until the cheese is melted and the crust is warm.
  •

 Downsides:

  • – The crust gets soggy.
  •
  • – If you don’t eat the pizza immediately, the crust can turn as hard as rock.
  •

Air fryer

Launched only in 2005, the air fryer has become the wonder appliance everyone wants to have because you can fry in it without having to use oil. And because it essentially works like a convection oven, it’s great for reheating your leftover pizza.

Instructions:

  • – Line the basket with a baking sheet.
  •
  • – Place your pizzas on top of it.
  •
  • – “Fry” your pizza for 3-5 minutes at 375°F (190°C), or until the cheese is melted.

 Downsides:

  • – The crust can get overcooked, making it crispy.
  •
  • – Only a few slices can fit inside the basket.
  •
  • – It’s a noisy machine.
  •

Skillet

While any type of pan would do well for reheating pizza, the cast-iron skillet is unrivalled because it acts like a pizza stone in a fiery hot brick oven. The crust gets crispy but it leaves the interior warm and the globs of cheese and grease are perfectly melted.

Instructions:

  • – Turn the burner on to medium and pre-heat your skillet for 5 minutes
  •
  • – Lay the pieces flat on the pan and cover the pan with a lid
  •
  • – Lessen the heat to low and cook the pizza for 3-5 minutes, or until the crust is crispy and the cheese is melted.

 Downsides:

  • – The biggest pan can only fit up to three slices
  •
  • – Clean-up can be tedious since cast iron must be washed and re-seasoned
  •

The Most Ingenious Hack to Reheat Pizza

People who would rather eat pizza cold than reheat it have their reasons. All methods enumerated above have one common drawback: the crust gets painfully tough. And for many, congealed grease and cheese with a chewy, slightly wet crust is the better alternative.

But there’s an awesome solution to the crust problem currently making the rounds in Reddit. And because this is something every pizza lover should know, we’re also sharing it:

  • – Simply follow the instructions for re-heating your leftover pizza using the skillet, as detailed above.
  •
  • – At the last minute, add a few drops of water around your pizza and immediately cover the pan with a lid.
  •
  • – Reduce the heat further (to the lowest possible setting), allowing the steam to moisten the toppings.
  •
  • – Turn the stove off, take the pizza out of the pan, and enjoy!

A lot of people are amazed at the results of this hack: beautifully melted cheese, soft toppings, chewy pizza ends, and perfectly crisp bottoms.

Reheating Pizza the Domino’s Way

The world-renowned fast food pizzeria Domino’s has also shared an interesting method of reheating pizza in the microwave. And surprise, surprise! It also requires water.

  • – Place the slices in a microwave-safe dish.
  •
  • – Put a small glass of water beside the dish.
  •
  • – Zap for 30-45 seconds on high.

They admit that this won’t give you the crispy crust but this method prevents the cheese and meat toppings from getting too tough and leathery.

They also shared other smart ideas on how to enjoy their different pizza flavours for breakfast on their Australian website.

  • Pizza sandwich

Take two slices of pizza, slap them together like a sandwich and reheat it in a waffle iron or sandwich press.

  • Pizza omelette

Scrape off all the toppings from the slices (set aside the crusts for the next dish) and mix it in with beaten eggs. Cook the mixture in a pan with a bit of oil and slide the omelette into a plate.

  • Pizza breadsticks

Slice those crusts into thin pieces and re-heat them in a toaster or air fryer (use the hack above). Dip these into homemade garlic sauce or any of the mouthwatering sauces from Domino’s.

The Leftover Everyone Loves

With all the different ways to reheat your pizza, plus the incredibly effective steaming hack to make it taste and feel fresh, you can order a large box for one, even if you can’t finish it all in one sitting. And those who prefer their pizza cold might change their minds once they have tried any of the aforementioned methods for this leftover treat.
