How to Build a Mobile Pizza Oven

By Robert Parsons May 5, 2021

There are few things better than eating pizza in a restaurant, however, pizza on wheels is one of them!

When you make your pizza business mobile, it gives you the freedom to make sales wherever you go. From corporate events and festivals to private parties, it’ll be easy to make money and provide people with your delicious, mouth-watering pizzas. Plus, you get to skip all the other stressful details of having a fixed location, such as rent, staffing, and rate charges.

Ready to get started? Here’s what you need to know about mobile pizza ovens!

Step 1: Concept and Layout

Pizza ovens in the mobile variety come in numerous shapes and sizes, so knowing what you want yours to be is the first step. Would you like your business to be a shed, cart, bus, train, or truck?

Once you know the shape you’re working with, you can plan how you want to layout your interior. Keep in mind, if you’re using a gas or wood-fired pizza oven, outlets for smoke and fumes to safely leave the truck must be factored into your wood-fired pizza oven trailer plans.

Also, think about the number of people you plan to employ. Are you planning to have an area to prepare the dough and add toppings and then have another person operating the oven and serving? Whatever you choose to do, just make sure you have the space to accommodate everyone comfortably and in a way where no one is obstructing another’s path.

Step 2: Framework and Oven Installation

When thinking about your pizza oven trailer plans, consider the framework. If it’s not already in place, you may build it up on your trailer. Once it’s in, it’s time to get your oven seated.

Ask yourself questions like:

– What type of structure you want it to sit upon – a fire-brick or hot-stone base, for example.

– What type of insulation would you prefer to wrap it within?

– What will you use to secure it?

– What will be used for your smoke outlet, and where will it be located?

Step 3: Building Around Your Oven

Once your oven is set in place, built, and functioning, the next step is to consider what you’re building around it.

As mentioned, you need to ensure you have a chimney or other type of outlet for the smoke to exit. Also, plan out your storage components and areas you need for efficiently generating your pizzas on-the-go.

Step 4: Branding

Once you’ve gotten your business on wheels all set up and you’ve learned how to build a mobile wood-fired pizza oven, you’re ready for the part that ties everything together – branding.

Think about how you’ve designed your oven.

– Does it have an authentic feel?

– Are there a lot of wood or metal elements?

– Do you see brick?

– Do you want to appeal to a younger crowd or older?

– business?

– What kind of art do you want on your vehicle to attract eyes, if any at all?

– What will your logo look like?

Of course, you also want to have a website or some type of online social media profile where people can tune in and find out where you’ll be next and what kinds of items you offer on your menu!

Step 5: Launch time!

Now that your mobile pizza oven is all built, your brand is developed, and you’ve secured the licenses and permits necessary for your business, you are ready to launch! Order your ingredients, get some shirts for your team, book a few pitches, and start promoting!

Stay safe, make sales, create delicious pizzas, and of course – have fun!
